Hi everyone,
Over the last few months, I’ve been incorporating more routines into my home and work life to try to make things a little easier on myself. I’ve a lot going on, I don’t have a cleaner and contrary to popular belief, I don’t really want to spend my free time cleaning!
So I’ve been grouping mundane tasks into routines. This is helping my time management and it’s making me feel better. I find having a routine around tasks I do regularly speeds up the process and just takes the thinking out of things, which eases stress.
So with Spring Cleaning season in full swing, I thought I’d share exactly what my daily, weekly and monthly cleaning routines look like with you.
Don’t forget that if you have subscribed, there are Daily and Weekly Cleaning Checklists up on our Free Resources page that are available to download for free!
DAILY
Every morning starts with making the bed. As I’m working during the day, the evening clean up is always the kitchen and living room. Dinner dishes are cleaned, counters tidied and the living room is neatened up before heading to bed.
✓Make Bed
✓Wash dishes / load dishwasher
✓Clean counters
✓Sweep floors
✓Tidy living room
✓Straighten up couch covers and cushions
✓Write tomorrow’s to-do list
✓Prepare tomorrow’s bag
WEEKLY
Every Friday night I start my laundry. This will continue in a cycle of washing and drying for the rest of the weekend. On Friday I also tidy my office. I get everything I need for Monday together and write out Monday’s To-Do list and then finish by making sure my office is back in shape. We have a ‘clean desk policy’ here at OC HQ of course!
✓Prep Monday’s bag
✓Iron uniform
✓Write Monday’s to-do list
✓Tidy office
✓Put on first load of washing
Then on Saturday I do a full clean of the apartment. I like to get this over with early in the day so that I can get on with my weekend. Here’s what I tackle and the order in which I do it around the apartment.
Bedroom
✓ Make bed
✓ Open curtains
✓ Put away clothes
Hallway
✓ General tidy up
Living/ Dining room
✓General tidy up
✓Straighten couch and cushions
✓Clear off dining table
Kitchen
✓Wash dishes/ load dishwasher
✓Dry dishes/ unload dishwasher
✓Tidy and wipe down counter tops
✓Empty bins and disinfect
Bathroom
✓Polish mirror
✓Dust all surfaces
✓Clean and disinfect sink, bath and taps
✓Clean and disinfect toilet
✓Clean floor
Once the above is done, then I go throughout the apartment and give a quick dust to some surfaces. I don’t spend much time on that at all. I then vacuum the entire apartment going into each of the rooms as mentioned above and hoover them all in the one go.
MONTHLY
Every 4 – 6 weeks, I do a deeper clean on the Saturday. Every task mentioned above is done, but I also do the below too.
Kitchen
✓ Dust windowsill
✓ Mop floors
✓ Wipe down all cupboard doors and handles
✓ Wipe interior of fridge
Living / Dining room
✓Dust surfaces
✓Mop floors
Bathroom
✓Clean makeup storage
✓Mop floors
Hallway
✓Dust surfaces
✓Mop floors
Bedroom
✓Dust surfaces
✓Change bedclothes
So there you have it. An idea of cleaning tasks that I do regularly to keep things in shape here. Do you have cleaning routines set up? You probably have a way of getting the work done but didn’t think of it as a routine! Let us know!
