Welcome to the first home tour of 2025! At Organised Chaos we know how much an organised space can improve your life. The relief you feel once you have organised a space is immense. We know that when you can control your home environment you have such a sense of freedom. We help you every step of the way to make space in your home to live the life you want without being controlled by clutter.
The journey to an organised home
When our client took the plunge and allowed us to help her regain her beautiful living room, the journey started with a discovery call to determine what she needed. We discussed the challenges within the room and why it had ended up as a dumping ground. Our client had had a lot of moves leading up to this forever home and she had lost her Dad. Plus while raising a family, trying to run her own business and help out with the family business, this room was constantly pushed down the priority list but pushed up her stress and anxiety levels. We had a look at photos and discussed how we would tackle the room with the client, looked at some dates and she was booked and up and running.

Before day one of the project we always stay in touch with the client and discuss storage solutions that might be needed and other details. In this case we didn’t need storage as it was mainly for clearing out and any storage we did need, we would re-use what the client already had.
And then the day arrived and it was time to get to work. This project was a team of two job and it would run for two days – this is twelve hours (or twenty four man hours). We got stuck in and started to make categories. This is always job one for us. We want to clear some space to work, and start to see the lay of the land. What exactly are we looking at here and what are the categories. Once we do that for a bit, the client is up to start making some decisions. During day one we focused on non-paper items and helped her to decide what stays at what goes.
Minding the environment
Our client was very environmentally conscious – in fact it was this concern that was one of the reasons for the paralysis in the room. So with that any item that was going out of the room we were meticulous at making sure they were well separated and assigned to a good home for donation or recycling. In the end, very little of this room went to landfill which we were all thrilled about. Items went to:
Paper & plastic recycling
Clothes recycling
School uniforms returned to the school
Arts and crafts to the local children’s hospitals
Soft furnishings to animal shelters
…to name but a few. The car here was just one of several trips made over the course of the few days.

Day 2
Day two started with paperwork. This is always very difficult to do and can be slow moving. But it is so worth doing – the relief clearing years of paperwork can be huge. Once that was done we were on the home stretch. It was time to make final decisions on some items we had passed over the previous day and time for the fun part – deciding on the new layout!
The Result
This is a beautiful big room and the client had hoped for it to serve three functions. I usually advocate for two max, so this was a big ask. We wanted to give the client what she wanted, but we also wanted to make sure the room was easy to use and would stay organised for the long term. But thankfully with some clever re-arranging of furniture the three zones emerged and are well separated. These zones were:
- The main living room / den area
- A gym / workout space
- An office space
We created these thoughtfully laid out zones to maximise the space and usability of the room.

We know how difficult it can be to get organised, but look at what you can have when you do! And don’t just take our word for it, our client was very happy having this room back and a huge weight off her shoulders!
The OC team helped me to deal with some very ancient paperwork; memorabilia; kids’ clothes and toys they had outgrown; and much more in a very cluttered room that had turned into a dump. They were so kind and incredibly efficient. It was a privilege to have their help with this long postponed job. I will always be grateful to them and absolutely recommend them if you need help with clutter and ancient history that you have trouble consigning to the recycling bin!
