Hi everyone,

One category that jumps out needing dire organisation in almost every home I visit is the children’s school and artwork. When kids start school, even before, from creche, the amount of paper that they come home with is actually unbelievable. And it’s quite overwhelming for Mam and Dad.

It’s great to see what the kids are doing in school. Of course, Mam and Dad want to see their report cards and their artwork. But every scrap of paper from homework, drawing the dots, practicing their writing? No. It’s not necessary and I know from working with a lot of parents that it causes a lot of stress at home and it causes anxiety. Because they feel guilty about throwing out the efforts of their children. I’m really not sure why schools send home as much paper as they do. It’s not good for the environment never mind anything else.

Parents are very busy nowadays. Unfortunately with mortgages and creche fees as they are, both parents usually have to work. So it’s difficult to get around to looking at the kids school work and art every day, or even every week. So what happens? It’s left in a corner and builds up all year round. Parents feel bad that they havn’t got the time to look and appreciate the creative exploits of their children. And they don’t have time to sort through it either.

Unfortunately without sorting it, it’s just putting off the inevitable and the paper will continue to build. It’s very difficult to wade through and organise paper. Particularly if it’s your children’s school and art work, as there’s high emotions caught up in that paper. But no matter how hard it is to find the time, some time MUST be found. It’s the only way to get a handle on it, and get a handle on your feelings around it.

There’s two things you can do. Make sure that all paperwork associated with your children is in one spot. And choose a time, maybe once a month, and commit to going through the paper each month. That in itself will help.

The next thing to do is figure out a way to store the paper you want and/or need to keep. And that’s what today’s video is all about. I look at storing artwork, school reports, information from the school, even paperwork associated with extra curricular activities.

I hope you find the video useful. Let me know if you try this out and how it works for you in the comments either below here or under the video! The links to the products suggested in the video are listed underneath the video too!
