An easy to use and impactful bookThis is an excellent book.
While I would love to live a totally minimalistic life, I don’t think its achievable for me in reality. I think this book isn’t as drastic as the Marie Kondo method, which I think for me is a good thing.
The book is exceptionally well written and is very easy to follow and doesn’t repeat advice unnecessarily. The quality of the paper is exquisite with really thick and smooth pages, making it a pleasure to read.
While I haven’t had the book a long time, I have applied it to areas within my home office and bedroom and its worked wonders. The spaces are airier and more organised already. I look forward to applying it to rest of my bedroom and the office (the worst rooms in the house) before moving onto everywhere else.
5 stars and thumbs up to Sarah for this advice. I’m really looking forward to continuing to apply her advice and seeing the results. Thanks for reading.
Certainly worth a read if your wanting to improve your home & the quality of your life.I picked this book up in Easons and was really glad I did. As I've been wanting to get more organized in tidying & time management among other things. This was a simple book to read through with ease. I got a lot of benefit from reading this book. I'm far from organized yet still the book has given me some fresh perspectives & approaches I would of never have thought up, on my own.
Nicely illustrated, with simple concise advice. The few books I've been working through lately have certainly improved the quality of my life & this is among them in its own little niche.
If your looking to improve your home or organizing skills this is a great book to get the fire started. Throwing stuff out & discarding unused items just lying around the house has given old areas space & light of day again. I'm far from done on this Journey yet I'm liking being that bit more organized & it's given more time for other things I love doing.
Definitely the best book out there for getting organisedI'm in my fifties and my house has always been Okay if visitors are coming but day to day a bit messy. I'm not good at systems and I tend to procrastinate. It's stressful living like this and I often wondered how other people kept things so neat all the time without exhausting themselves. Last year was a difficult year for a number of reasons and the house seemed to go to pot and by the Autumn the cupboards were jammed full of items that I never used/couldn't find etc. I decided that I would search again for something that might help and came across the many five star reviews for this book.
Over the years I've purchased many books - the problems with these systems were either they were far too prescriptive (I don't actually want to live in a house where people feel nervous visiting, I just want to live in a more orderly way), far too complicated (I don't want to have to study and re-read the book before I make a start) or focused on the psychology of why I've got into this state and not enough on how to get out of it. Or the other problem of impossible schedules. This book is none of those. The guidance is clear, well laid out and makes perfect sense. It is quite systematic but it points out the pitfalls you could fall into along the way. Sarah Reynolds' tone is supportive without being overly chatty or falsely friendly. It is like having a sensible and kind but firm friend with you guiding you through a very sensible and user friendly system that methodically works through the entire house. She gives you the tools and shows you how to use them but the tools are simple to use.
Some examples: 1. Make a decision on what to do with something when decluttering, don't have a miscellaneous pile because everything will end up on it. 2. Complete the circle and clear up after yourself but allocate time to finish the room e.g. you might spend two hours on it today but make sure you have thought about how long the entire project will take and allocate the time before starting otherwise you end up with half completed projects and disorganisation which is exactly what has got you into the mess you're in for starters.
I also like that she isn't a stickler for Instagram worthy organisation but isn't so much in the camp that leaves you to design your own system. It feels like she is just the right mix of personalising the organisation but also giving you the underlying shape of a system before you tweak it for your own situation.
For the first time I actually feel optimistic about my home and household management. The only problem I have now is getting my three grown up children to sort through their stuff! I doubt Sarah can help with that as she looks about 25 years old on the cover of the book. Such wisdom and good sense for one so young!
